Default Hytech replica header + Apexi WS2 exhaust

I picked up a Hytech replica header and an Apexi WS2 exhaust for my 98 GSR. I knew that some work would have to be done to the exhaust because the header is much longer then stock. I picked up a high flow cat to go along with the setup. After installing the exhaust last night at home and the header it looks like I'll have to make a cut into the B pipe so that I can get the cat to fit in. Anyone know a good exhaust shop in Mississauga that would be able to do that type of work? I'll also need them to attach the header support bracket. I was hoping I would not have to cut my new exhaust but my other option would be to get a test pipe but I fear its going to get too loud, raspy and I need a cat for the E test.

JPG exhaust in Oakville, get off at Dorval exit turn left, then another left on Speers road, then look for a carwash on your left and there in that palza in the rear. They do good work and are very reasonably priced.

the WS2 is a very quiet exhaust, i doubt the difference in sound without a cat would be minimal

I want the cat so that I can pass E test, so I’ll take the cat to a shop and see what they can do. It looks like part of the exhaust will have to be cut. I’ll try to get the header together today and take some pictures because it’s in 2 parts, and so far its been very frustrating 3 out of 4 pipes fit in fine the 4th is like 2mm off and no matter what I have done so far I cant get the thing to fit in. “That’s what she said”

Some pix of the install, out with the old in with the new
Some pix of the old DC next to the hytech replicas.

The new Apexi WS2

The skunk2 short shifter, I might have a problem with it hitting the exhaust when I shift I'll see how it goes after I do the full install.

The 2.5inch gasket will not fit..

I'll post more pix after the install is done.

I'll let you know by the end of the week. to get a cat installed with this setup you will have to cut into the Apexi exhaust to make it fit, right now I dont want to do that so I'm going to get the test pipe setup tomorrow and hope to get it all installed by the weekend.
When its all setup I'll post more pix and a sound clip of how is sounds with the test pipe.
Anyone know if I will get a CEL if I dont run a cat but still have the O2 sensor installed in the test pile and if it will effect my fuel mileage?

Well I got the headers installed but I can see a problem, it might be hard to see in this picture but the headers point down I think too much. This might be because of the bolts that are used to tighten the header, they are only located at the bottom. I think I'm going to pull them out again for the 234th time and install 2 more bolts at the top to tighten the top hoping it will bring the header more level and not so much of a slant.

Also I'll have to bring the test pipe back its 1 inch too long and I cant bolt up the exhaust...
Uhhh this header has been a **** off so far..

Well I wanted to give an update,, long story short this header is a mess. NO matter what I do the header still points down and to get the exhaust to join it is a disaster. I'm about to give up and just buy another header that needs no work to the cat because right now I think this header is a POS. I'll see if an exhaust shop can do anything to do but I'll have to get a tow truck to bring it over.... uhhhh.....

At this point in time NO! I send the guy an e-mail with pictures to see what he has to say. The only way to fix this would be to bend the pipes like 2-inch so that they are not facing down like in the picture, I tried for a good 20 min to attach the exhaust #1 if you do attach it the connection from the header to the cat will hand super low #2 if you do attach it the rest of the exhaust it forced up... Man you dont know how frustrated I am at this point.. I wanted my car on the road like 2 weeks ago.. now its just a mess...

i don't think the header is supposed to point down like that. i have a hytech replica i plan on installing with my swap and mine stays strait.

and you expect anything less than that with a ching-chong made replica header?

The best part is the huge dips you'll get in the powerband with these headers. Now that i've done some decent dyno testing with these headers I don't recommend people using them.

Not to mention their crap *** quality.

For the money, i'd recommend just getting a vibrant j-spec 4-2-1. They perform pretty well actually and the quality is definately there. I used on my car for years without any problems. Good ground clearance too, unlike these replica headers that have garbage ground clearance from what i've seen.

Not trying to ---- on your thread, or rain on your parade....but these hytech replica headers suck.

Did your header come with 2 bolts at the bottom to tighten it? Or did it have 4? 2 at the bottom and 2 at the top? My only came with 2 and they are at the bottom I think after I tighten them it moves the bottom pipes deeper inside causing the header to have this downward slant. I dont know man I'm clutching at straws now.. if possible can you take a picture of your install? Also did you install this part on the header?

I just spent another 30 min outside I removed the bottom 2 bolts that tighten the header and I was able to move the connection point to the cat a bit higher so that I'm able to connect the exhaust now. I still think it looks liek crap and I'm going to bring it into a muffler shop to see if theycan do anything.

Ahh no worries man.. I've ---- all over my own parade after working on this POS for over a 2 weeks now.. I'm getting fed up with it.. I dont know what to do at this point I'm going to take a brake from it for today because I'm just sick at looking at it..

WTH!!!! anyway, i've been teliing people for over 2 years that these chitech reps suck ***. the only 3 reps worth purchasing are the vibrant j spec (JUN/T1R), VKidd (RMF narrow) and SP (Toda)....with the Vibrant having the best craftsmanship and probably QC (all 7 of my j specs have been identical from flange to flange)

Thats jus what I might do this week is pick up the Vibrant and get this car on the road.
With the hytech rep I'll have to A) run a test pipe with no cat, I dont know if I want to risk the ticket for that. Or B) cut int my new cat back exhaust.

You know a good place int he GTA to pick up the vibrant?
